Black & White Challenge

“When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!” —Ted Grant

Many of you have either seen or participated in the Black & White Challenge that has been going viral on the interwebs lately, so I wanted to share the Tin Can take on it. Instead of taking one photo each day for five days, I took a look back at five images we have already made and love in color and transformed them. And it never fails. By taking an image down to simple hues, you see it in a whole new light. Quite literally, the way the light falls seems to magnify and deepen the image. And it's beautiful.

Perhaps it's because I got my start into this crazy world of photography developing black and white images in the dark room for hours on end in college, but I'm quite partial to this process. It really does help speak to the soul of the subject.

Thanks for following along!

  2. I'm surprised your work. Very beautiful. I too want to do something that just does not work. I have advised friends to try this website https://macphun.com/tonality . They said everything clearly and quickly understand how to do. But I did not go there. Can you give me some tips for the novice. I would be very grateful.
